The Convention closes | Sep 05th 2008

So John McCain accepted our party’s nomination for President, the balloons dropped, the confetti fell, the people danced and celebrated. The official John McCain – Sarah Palin ticket is now among us, and so ends Volume I of our story, but Volume II is already being written.

We need to ask ourselves what do we do know? I’ll tell you that the only answer that can provide any kind of positive result is stay involved and work on local campaigns.

The convention was an amazing experience, not only because of the sights and sounds, the people, the press, the camaraderie, but for the education it provided. I now understand exactly what the National Convention is, and it is not a place to choose your Presidential candidate, nor is it the place to discuss your platform. You don’t come here to affect the rules of the party, or even to affect change in anyway on the GOP. You come to celebrate, you come to drink, you come to dance and party.

So why is it important that we continue to endure this process?  Involvement! We must maintain our voice. Without our words, our ideas, our faces they have no reason to consider anything other than the status quo or worse yet, “change.” Our voices wont always be heard on the street corners, and front porches, in blog posts, or townhall forums, but the uniqueness of this event provides a rare opportunity to interact with Senators, Governors, State Party Chairs, and other high ranking officials, and from a much more respected level – that of fellow Delegates.

Our mark on history has been made, and we will be remembered as the patriots who began the fight to return our country to its Constitutional roots, and the GOP back to that of the likes of Calvin Coolidge, Robert Taft, Barry Goldwater and Ronald Reagan.

We may only have 59 days remaining of this election cycle, but lets remember there are just over 1500 days until the election of 2012.

We have only begun to fight….

  1. It’s not entirely surprising that they essentially railroaded the National Convention – it’s what we saw at the State one as well. But you are right – we need to move forward and stay involved.

And hey, I hope that the drink, dance and party part of it is fun :-)

  2. The Washington Delegation treated us better than we could ever have imagined, especially after the credentials challenge that some among us laid at their feet. I beleive many bridges have been built, and a new mutual respect now exists to some degree. I am proud of our Washington Delegation, I am proud of our Ron Paul supporters, I am proud of those who may not have agreed with us, but were grateful for all we have done. There are not many that I have respect for, but State Chairman Luke Esser has certainly earned it as have Ralph and Chris our Delegation co-Chairs.

The partying was fun, especially with the Ron Paul supporters.
